Saileach

Saileach, or Old Man Willow as most folks know him, is a familiar site wandering the woods on the outskirts of Tempest. Few know much about him other than the stories told about his birth. The most common story is set during a storm of historic and unparalleled magnitude. As his parents fled the destruction of their farm, his father was swept away by the floodwaters. His mother was forced to take refuge under an ancient willow tree. Though the storm winds howled all around them, the willow remained calm and unmoved as though protected by some magic. It was there that he was born and there that he and his mother hid until the floodwaters subsided.

Many doubt this story as 80 years have passed since the great storm and Saileach has the strength and virility of a man half that age. Debate on the subjects of his birth and how he came to live alone in the forest are common at the village inn, but none have had the courage to seek him out and enquire directly. Many believe he’s a ghost that haunts the ancient woods where he lived as a younger man. Though the elven folk laugh at the humans’ superstition, they respect Saileach’s woodsmanship and are amazed by his exceptional durability.

As remarkable as his age is his physical appearance: Saileach stands at a towering 6’10” and by most estimates would weigh as much as 15 stone or more. His hair, a great mass of copper locks lie unkempt and green at the tips. His beard hangs long and uncut, and some say birds make their nest in it (the elves laugh at this rumor as well).
